Vitamin Exposures on the Rise in Texas

Vitamin exposure calls are on in the increase in Texas. Texas Poison Centers have seen a 55% increase in exposures to pediatric vitamins, a 35 percent increase in human exposure calls to vitamins overall and a more than 24 percent increase in exposure to melatonin calls from March through June of this year.

Snake Bites on the Increase in Texas

Reports of snake bites are on in the increase in Texas. Texas Poison Centers have seen a more than 40 percent increase in snake bite calls this year over last year. To date, there have been 372 in 2020.

TTUHSC Responds to Call from Gov. Greg Abbott to Increase VTM Capacity for Texas Through Production and Education

In an April 27 press conference, Gov. Greg Abbott spoke of increasing testing availability in Texas—saying the state would aim to test 30,000 people a day in the coming term. His OpenTexas report recognized TTUHSC as a producer of Viral Transport Medium (VTM), a critical component to expanding access to COVID-19 testing across the state.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Teams Bring Convalescent Plasma Treatments to West Texas

TTUHSC medical teams from the Panhandle and South Plains recently joined a study led by the Mayo Clinic to use convalescent plasma in severely-ill patients with coronavirus (COVID-19).
