Despite Overwhelming Obstacles, Nurses Continue to Fight the Battle Against COVID-19

Amid constant updates and government-issued safety measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, America is officially in uncharted territory. While the public is having to adapt to new precautions and changes at an alarming rate, the health care workforce has experienced unprecedented pressure: physicians, nurses and other health care professionals are straining to keep up with these waves of new protocols, new information and exhausting hours.

Future Healthcare Professionals’ Experience Fuels Passion in Young Students

Each year, students of all ages and backgrounds come to the Future Healthcare Professionals’ Experience (FHPE) hosted by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). Led by students and faculty at TTUHSC, the event is a workshop on campus where students interested in careers in health sciences get guided tours and hands-on experience in real on-campus facilities.

Watson on Connecting With Students

“I think I’ve attended every nursing school in the Lubbock area and graduated from every one of them,” Jeff Watson, DPN, RN, TTUHSC School of Nursing assistant professor said. “I went to vocational nursing school at South Plains College [in Lubbock, Texas] back in the ‘80s and then I moved to Dallas to attend a small bible college, Christ For The Nations Institute. On the day I graduated, I was packed and ready to come back to Lubbock.”

One Team: Helping Students Find Their Strength

Lauren Sullivan, Ed.D., has worked in the School of Nursing for over a decade in an array of positions. Her goal is to add value to the nursing student experience by performing her job with a student-centered philosophy and creating chances for students to engage, learn and develop.Sullivan collaborates with the School of Nursing Enrollment Management Coordinators to plan new student orientations for undergraduate and graduate students to ensure the success of their students.

TTUHSC School of Nursing Among Best in the State, Nation

Nursing Schools Almanac released its 2019 rankings of the best U.S. nursing schools and named Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing as the second best in Texas and in the Southwest region. The School of Nursing was also rated 11th among public nursing schools and 22nd among all nursing schools in the U.S.
