Grad Student Earns Travel Award
The American Society of Microbiology (ASM) recently selected Anwar Hossain, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Pharmacy’s Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, to receive the ASM Student and Postdoctoral Travel Award AAR to attend ASM Microbe 2018.
TTUHSC Student Awarded Phi Kappa Phi Dissertation Fellowship
Kandis Wright was selected as a recipient of a 2018 Dissertation Fellowship from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all disciplines. Wright is one of only ten recipients nationwide to receive the $10,000 fellowship.
Celebrating 30 Years of Research
Samuel Prien, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, started at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in 1980. He remembered the creation of a student-run Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences event in 1988. This year marked the 30-year anniversary of the event, and Prien has served as the event judge for 25 years.
GPPS Student Selected for Grant
The Society of Toxicology Awards Committee recently selected Sharavan Ramachandran, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Pharmacy’s Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, to receive the Syngenta Fellowship Grant in Human Health Applications of New Technologies.
GSBS selects Dean’s Scholar Award honorees

Kshitij Verma, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences made a podium presentation at the American Chemical Society Southwest Regional Meeting.
Department renamed to honor TTUHSC and Abilene benefactor
The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the naming of the TTUHSC Department of Public Health as the Julia Jones Matthews Department of Public Health.
Scholarships send grad students to vascular conference
Md. Sanaullah Sajib and Fatema Tuz Zahra, graduate students from the TTUHSC-Amarillo campus, used travel scholarships to attend the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO) Vasculata.
