Making a Difference: The Free Clinic Extraordinary Volunteers

Abigail Buckholz, is a fourth-year medical student from Carlsbad, New Mexico. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biological sciences: neuroscience, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, with minors in music and chemistry. She plans to compete a double residency in psychiatry and internal medicine or family medicine.

Empowering Medical Students

SNMA is one of the nation’s oldest and largest independent, student-run organizations focused on the needs and concerns of culturally diverse medical students. The TTUHSC School of Medicine SNMA chapter participates in various projects including mentoring undergraduate students, promoting health care fields with elementary students, organizing community health fairs, working with the undergraduate community and helping improve medical school curriculum and admissions.

Cuello’s Potassium Channel Research Published in PNAS

Cuello and his team from TTUHSC’s Department of Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics recently completed a study in which they attempted to capture at atomic resolution a picture/snapshot of one of the two ion-bound configuration that seem to coexist within the selectivity filter of K+-channel.

Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Awards Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Grants

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) researchers were awarded more than $3.1 million in grants from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The funds were awarded to support new scientific research projects and recruits to help fight cancer in Texas. TTUHSC’s grants are part of over $6 million that was awarded to the Texas Tech University System.
