Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. Programs

The Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) gives you the flexibility to explore concentrations that align with your interests and long-term career goals. You will advance your scientific expertise while working closely with faculty who are leaders in their fields.

Choose from four dynamic concentrations: 

  • Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology: A concentration that prepares students for careers in biomedical research in academia, industry and government roles. Students train with internationally recognized faculty and research major areas such as reproductive biology, development, molecular biology, diabetes, cancer and other diseases.
  • Immunology & Infectious Diseases: This multidisciplinary concentration provides a unique educational experience that integrates immunology, bacterial pathogenesis, virology, parasitology and molecular biology.
  • Molecular Biophysics: Designed primarily to train students for careers in biomedical and life sciences, students learn advanced techniques in a wide range of areas, including molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology and more.
  • Translational Neurosciences & Pharmacology: This concentration prepares students for a broad range of potential careers, including research and teaching, with individual mentors who provide specialized research training in brain health, pain, neuroplasticity, alcohol use disorder, neurodegenerative diseases, stroke and cancer. 

Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. Program

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. program prepares students for meaningful careers in the pharmaceutical industry, academia and federal regulatory agencies such as the FDA. You will gain experience across the full spectrum of pharmaceutical research, including:

  • Drug design and discovery
  • Drug delivery and formulation
  • Therapeutic development
  • Preclinical and translational research
