The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine Class of 2030 received their first white coat and pledged their commitment to the medical profession at the White Coat Ceremony today (July 31) at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences.

In the healthcare profession, the white coat is one of the most visible symbols. John DeToledo, M.D., TTUHSC School of Medicine dean and executive vice president of clinical affairs, addressed the students and their friends and family and said the ceremony is a rite of passage for first-year future physicians.

“This is the first step of their journey in the medical profession,” DeToledo said. “When students put on their white coats, they are committing to their calling, the responsibilities and the professionalism of medicine that is expected of every future physician. It is a proud moment for these students, families, friends and the TTUHSC School of Medicine.”

The incoming class consists of 182 students who graduated from 44 different colleges and universities, including Angelo State University, Arizona State University, Baylor University, Emory University, Lubbock Christian University, Midwestern State University, Texas A&M University, Texas State University, Texas Tech University, TTUHSC School of Health Professions, The University of Texas at Austin, University of Arkansas, University of Dallas, University of Houston, University of Missouri, University of North Texas, University of Texas of the Permian Basin, University of Wisconsin, Wayland Baptist University and West Texas A&M University.
