Educating the Next Generation of Physicians
Williams, originally from Dublin, Ireland, moved to Lubbock, Texas, as an assistant professor in 1995 after completing postdoctoral training in the area of gene regulation and cancer at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland. He was promoted to associate professor in 2001 and served as Director of Research at the Southwest Cancer Research and Treatment Center until 2005.
Prien Named to National Academy of Inventors
The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has named Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Professor Samuel Prien, Ph.D., to the inaugural class of 66 NAI Senior Members.
Answering an Ad for a New Team
Dr. Tom Tenner walked into the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for the first time April 1, 1978 on what he calls an auspicious day. Thinking back, he stopped to calculate the number of times he has walked into the doors of this university. Subtracting holidays, weekends, sick days and vacations over the past 41 years, he figured — about 9,000 times.
Rising to a Need for Health Care
In 1969, the 61st Texas Legislature passed a bill creating the Texas Tech University School of Medicine that was signed by Gov. Preston Smith. The establishment of this institution was not without its challenges and controversies.
Kicking off Fifty Years
Former Gov. Preston Smith had a vision of providing more physicians to the West Texas area. Now 50 years later, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) celebrated the milestone beginning with a 50th Anniversary announcement.
TTU System Honors Top Faculty Members with Chancellor’s Council Awards
Throughout the month of January, Texas Tech University System Chancellor Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell recognized 13 faculty members from the TTU System’s four institutions as recipients of the 2019 Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards. These awards recognize excellence in academics and research, and are the most prestigious honors given to faculty members within the TTU System.
