TAMEST Executive Director Visits Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to Strengthen Research Collaboration

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) on Wednesday (May 6) welcomed Terrence Henry, executive director of the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology (TAMEST), for a campus visit aimed at strengthening partnerships and expanding research engagement opportunities across Texas.
TTUHSC is a member institution of TAMEST and attends its annual conference, a premier statewide gathering which connects leading researchers in medicine, engineering, science and technology. Each year, TTUHSC sends faculty mentors and emerging researchers, known as protégés, to network and present their work.

TTUHSC Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation, Lance R. McMahon, Ph.D., said as one of TAMEST’s 23 member institutions, TTUHSC was pleased to welcome Henry to campus.
“This visit provides an important opportunity to align with TAMEST’s mission to increase representation of Texas faculty in the National Academies,” McMahon said. “Direct engagement with our research leadership and faculty offers a firsthand look at innovation and expertise across West Texas. It also strengthens dialogue, increases visibility and creates opportunities to build lasting partnerships that advance shared goals in research, innovation and workforce development. These efforts are critical to expanding research capacity across our region.”
Henry met with department chairs and research center leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the institution’s research ecosystem. He also engaged with the Research Innovation, Collaboration and Entrepreneurship team to discuss opportunities for increased faculty involvement and future collaboration.
In addition, Henry toured the School of Medicine Pediatric Cancer Research Center laboratory led by C. Patrick Reynolds, M.D., Ph.D., highlighting TTUHSC’s ongoing cancer efforts.
