Queue For A Cause

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Advocates for Special Needs Athletes (ASNA), a student organization, will host Queue for a Cause at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the CapRock Winery, located at 408 East Woodrow Road.

Queue for a Cause will include a banquet-style dinner, a live quarter auction and a silent auction. The main event of the fundraiser is the quarter auction in which each person has numbered paddles that correspond to numbered chips. These chips are drawn to determine the item winner. Individual’s paddles are put into play by giving a quarter per paddle to open the auction. The winner of the item is the first person who has a number drawn of a paddle in play.

ASNA is an organization dedicated to funding and providing people of all ages with special needs the opportunity to participate in and develop through athletics, competition, and a commitment to health.

Katie Butler, a second-year TTUHSC medical student and ASNA president, said this event will raise funds for the Special Olympics of Texas and The Refuge.

“ASNA wanted to give back and chose these two great organizations that are committed to people with special needs,” Butler said. “We invite the community to come out and enjoy a great event.”

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Refuge Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides equine-assisted therapies to individuals of all ages. Refuge Services, Inc. offers hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, and equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) to children, adolescents, and adults.

Bring rolls of quarters to participate in the quarter auction. The rules will be explained in detail at the event. For more information, to purchase a ticket or to make a donation, visit http://www.ttuhsc.edu/student-affairs/organizations/default.aspx or email Butler at katie.butler@ttuhsc.edu.
