Multiple surgeries could be cause of recurring hernias - LubbockOnline.com
The more surgeries you have, including hernia correction surgeries, the higher the risk you have of redeveloping a ventral hernia, according to a study conducted by a Texas Tech Health Sciences Center researcher.
Results show people have a higher risk of developing hernias if they've had any kind of abdominal surgery with vertical cuts, including corrective surgery for hernias, said Dr. Sharmila Dissanaike, a professor in the department of surgery, associate program director of General Surgery Residency, Burn Fellowship program director, Burn Center of Research Excellence director at the HSC and associate burn and trauma medical director for University Medical Center.
