The latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders shows about 7 percent of Americans have depression, said David Trotter, assistant professor for Texas Tech and a psychologist in Lubbock. Women are more likely than men to suffer from depression and attempt suicide, he said. Men, however complete suicide significantly more.
