Poison Center hosts Amarillo Medication Cleanout
The Texas Panhandle Poison Center (TPPC) began its fall Medication Cleanout collection cycle Sept. 10 at the TTUHSC Amarillo campus. During the four-hour collection period, 105 event volunteers saw 482 vehicles and took in more than 1,450 pounds of unwanted, expired or unused medications.
Since it started the program in 2009, TPPC has conducted 44 Medication Cleanout events and collected more than 28,695 pounds of medications and sharps for incineration.
TPPC held its second fall Medication Cleanout event Oct. 1 at the TTUHSC campus in Lubbock. The fall Medication Cleanout cycle will also include an Oct. 22 event at the TTUHSC Abilene campus.
