TTUHSC Students to Host Benefit for Special Needs and Therapeutic Programs
ASNA members host science class at High Point Village
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Advocates for Special Needs Athletes (ASNA), an interprofessional student organization, will host Queue for a Cause at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center, 2521 17th St.
Queue for a Cause will include a banquet-style dinner, a live quarter auction and a silent auction. The main event of the fundraiser is the quarter auction in which each person has numbered paddles that correspond to numbered chips. These chips are drawn to determine the item winner. Individual’s paddles are put into play by giving a quarter per paddle to open the auction. The winner of the item is the first person who has a number drawn of a paddle in play.
ASNA is an organization dedicated to funding and providing people of all ages with special needs the opportunity to participate in and develop through athletics, competition and a commitment to health.
Carly Humphrey, chair of the event and ASNA member, said this event will raise funds for High Point Village and the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center.
“ASNA wanted to give back and chose these two great organizations that are committed to people with special needs and disabilities,” Humphrey said. “We invite the community to come out and enjoy a great event.”
High Point Village is a non-profit organization developed for the purpose of providing and enriching the lives of individuals with special needs through a variety of vocational, educational, social and motivational activities.
Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center provides equine-assisted therapy to people with disabilities in the South Plains. Through a collaborative effort of medical and universal professionals, their goal is to enhance the quality of life of each person participating in hippotherapy and therapeutic riding.
Bring rolls of quarters to participate in the quarter auction. The rules will be explained in detail at the event. For more information, to purchase a ticket or to make a donation, visit https://www.ttuhsc.edu/student-affairs/organizations/ or email Humphrey at carly.humphrey@ttuhsc.edu.
