Telemedicine 101 to Educate Professionals About Telehealth Technology

The TexLa Telehealth Resource Center, part of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s (TTUHSC) F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health, will host free Telemedicine 101 presentations to educate health care professionals about telemedicine.

“The TexLa TRC works with hospitals, clinics, health care providers and public and private insurance companies that might want to do telemedicine, communities that may be trying to figure out how to bring health care to their community, nonprofits — you name it — we’re going to be there to assist them in developing, or in some cases, expanding to other area’s telehealth programs,” said Debbie Voyles, MBA, director of Telemedicine at the TTUHSC F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health.

TTUHSC has one of the longest running telemedicine programs in the nation, with health care providers seeing between 450 to 500 patients per month remotely. In addition, telehealth can help as 32 million more Americans become insured as mandated by the Affordable Care Act.

Telemedicine 101 attendees will have the opportunity to see the technology in action and learn about the benefits to patients who must travel from other communities throughout Texas and Louisiana to receive health care services.
