Dr. Ron Warner, part-time faculty member and epidemiologist at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, said a type of mosquito known for being highly efficient at transmitting West Nile, is common in the South Plains area and begins feeding on humans in the middle of summer. However, he said the weather this year explains the lack of West Nile cases in comparison to previous years.
