State budget battle has huge impact on Lubbock's economic pillars - LubbockOnline.com


Although it’s still too early to say how deep cuts the state’s budget for the next biennium may be, the ax’s edge will gouge at the core of Lubbock’s economy — the city’s largest school system, Texas Tech University and both major hospitals.

“It’s obvious that government, public education, higher education are all in the crosshairs,” said James Arnold, executive vice president of Lubbock National Bank and president of the Lubbock ISD board of trustees. “Lubbock’s largest employers — Tech, the Health Sciences Center, Covenant, LISD — all will be affected by what comes out of the state budget.”...
