Amarillo Nursing grads ace NCLEX

TTUHSC School of NursingAll seven students who recently graduated from the Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Veterans to BSN (VBSN) programs at the TTUHSC School of Nursing in Amarillo have passed their National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). The group includes Andrew Brown, Meagan Chambers, Brittany Hargrove, Amanda Hinojosa, Justin Isaacs, Kailey Moorhead and Matthew Reed.

“It’s been an honor to serve my country and now I have the opportunity for a second career through the Veterans to BSN Program,” Reed said.

Debbie Casida, R.N., the Second Degree BSN and VBSN site coordinator for the Amarillo campus, said the Class of 2016 has set the bar by becoming Amarillo’s first Second Degree BSN class and first VBSN class to achieve a 100 percent NCLEX pass rate.

“I am so very pleased and proud of these students’ accomplishment of scholarship,” Casida added. “I know they will continue to serve our community well as RNs.”

TTUHSC Development Officer Jaclyn Inkhamheng said the results are gratifying because they demonstrate how important scholarship funds can be in helping students succeed. She said Bell Helicopter has donated $37,500 in scholarship money since 2013 to the Second Degree BSN and VBSN programs at the Amarillo campus. She said the students use the scholarship awards to help them cope with the extra costs they can accumulate by going without a job during their year in the program.

“Bell Helicopter has been a tremendous partner in ensuring the success of each student in Amarillo and transforming the lives of each family represented and we cannot thank them enough for the generous support they provide each year,” Inkhamheng said. “We are proud to partner with Bell Helicopter to advance the future of health care together.”
