New Leaders Take Their Oath

Before the new Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Student Government Association (SGA) officers took the helm for the new school year, the first order of business was to take their oath. Exiting SGA officers and members honored outstanding faculty, students and graduating seniors at the SGA Government Association Awards and Installation Banquet May 1.
Outgoing SGA officers Eric Edwards, Michael Russell, Rebecca Marquez and Sareh Cavazos
were recognized and the new officers for 2015-2016 took their oath of office as the
transfer of the gavel was made. Elected officers include:
President — Michael Russell
- Vice President of Communications — Monish Makena
- Vice President of Operations — Cheyenne Mangold
- Vice President of Finance — Terrance Rodrigues
The SGA serves as the voice for students and focuses on a number of key projects. Edwards said this banquet is an opportunity to honor faculty and senators who are mentors and go above and beyond.
“These are the only awards given by students who voted directly for them, and it is an honor to host this for the faculty and students who give so much to the institution,” Edwards said.
Awards presented included:
Outstanding Organization of the Year — Texas Nursing Student Association
Outstanding Senator of the Year — Erika Allen
