Within a year of enacting smoke-free laws, other cities have seen a drop of 15 percent in hospitalization for heart attacks and strokes and 20 percent of asthma and lung diseases, according to Dr. Scott Shurmur, chief of cardiology at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.
