The American Heart Association has named TTUHSC Lubbock a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite for recognizing the importance of a healthy workplace for its employees and taking important steps to create a culture of wellness through its Workforce Overall Wellness (WOW!) program.

Allison Kerin, M.S., R.D., L.D., director of Employee Wellness and Recognition, submitted an extensive application for the award in June 2013, detailing TTUHSC programs regarding physical activity, nutrition/healthy eating and promoting a wellness culture.

“We had to have implemented six of the physical activity requirements, two of the nutrition requirements and one of the cultural activity requirements,” Kerin said. “This a huge accomplishment and speaks volumes of TTUHSC's commitment to our employees' overall wellness.”

TTUHSC is now included with many other huge corporations throughout America, and a handful of higher education institutions receiving the Gold Achievement.

WOW! is an employee-focused program that offers baseline medical screenings and medication education, fitness, nutrition and work stress management on all TTUHSC campuses. In partnership with the Garrison Institute on Aging, WOW! offers activities including free fitness and nutrition classes, an onsite farmer’s market and a smoking cessation program.
