By now, it is common knowledge obesity is a major health concern for Americans. Latest research shows 35.7 percent of American adults are obese and 17 percent (12.5 million) of children are obese, as well. Obesity has been directly linked to heart disease, strokes and type 2 diabetes, as well as certain types of cancers.

Through the Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention grant, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center Garrison Institute on Aging has added nutritional information to menu boards at concession stands at the Lubbock Youth Sports Complex, Berl Huffman Sports Complex, Santa Land and four city of Lubbock pools. Some of these facilities nutritional information include the number of calories, amount of sodium and the amount of fat in each item.
