Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Once Again Sets Record Enrollment
Officials at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) announced today (Sept. 18) a new enrollment record with 4,391 students enrolled in the fall 2012 semester. This is the largest enrollment in the institution’s history and up 7.25 percent over the 4,094 students enrolled last year.
“Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is a developing institution, and its unprecedented enrollment growth continues the university’s forward progress,” said Kent Hance, chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. “Dr. Mitchell and his team are doing an outstanding job advancing health care in Texas and beyond.”
TTUHSC President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., said the university’s continued growth signifies its commitment to the mission of improving health care in Texas through research, education and outreach.
“In spite of the tough economic times the state is facing, the need for well-educated health care professionals remains unchanged,” Mitchell said. “Our growth in enrollment reflects the university’s commitment to providing the communities we serve these highly skilled individuals.”
The School of Nursing had the highest enrollment of the TTUHSC schools with 1,416 students. The Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing had 112 students. The School of Allied Health Sciences had the second highest enrollment with 1,314 students.
The School of Medicine enrolled 582 students and the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine enrolled 253 students. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Pharmacy enrolled 114 and 600 students, respectively.
"Students from around the world are aware of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's reputation in providing quality health care education, and this is reflected in our continued enrollment growth," said Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Rial Rolfe, Ph.D. "We are proud of our outstanding faculty and students."
TTUHSC is a multi-campus institution with campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene,
El Paso, Dallas, Midland and Odessa.
