In October 2011, I was working at a place that did not provide health insurance benefits. I had heard an advertisement on television regarding free mammograms if you qualified, and they were available at different Walmart locations on different Saturdays. I went, and I qualified because I did not have insurance. A date was set, Dec. 10.

Then I asked what was next. I was given an appointment with a surgeon at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
