Students Give Back to the Community
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Student Government Association (SGA) is giving back to the community with a two-day outreach at the Bridge 2 Success on Jan. 25 and 26 at 1301 Redbud Ave.
TTUHSC students will perform manual labor for various projects at Bridge 2 Success from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. On Thursday, the SGA will host an educational fair to promote health care careers to high school students in the Bridge 2 Success program.
Bridge 2 Success, a part of the Bridge of Lubbock which reaches out to east Lubbock, is a free Christian mentoring program that helps at-risk students in sixth grade and higher to prepare for success after high school.
Calvin Bradley, SGA president said all TTUHSC students are pursuing a career in some facet of health care with intentions of using their degree to serve their communities.
“With these aspirations of service, I think it is only right that we should be actively
involved in the community as students,” Bradley said. “The TTUHSC SGA chose to work
with Bridge 2 Success because it serves a great need to the surrounding community.
We are really excited about working with everyone, especially the students, since
it wasn’t too long ago that we were preparing for life after high school.”
