Berk’s “Anatomy of a Kidnapping” came from a personal experience of being held in his home by an armed criminal. Berk is dean of the School of Medicine at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. He was living in Amarillo when he was held hostage. By establishing rapport with the kidnapper, he was able to keep his family safe.
