Free Clinic Offered to Celebrate Women's Health Day

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine students will host a Women’s Health Day free clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Lubbock IMPACT/TTUHSC Free Clinic, 2707 34th St.

The facility is a non-billing clinic where people without medical insurance can be seen for various medical problems. Patients of all ages from mostly lower income backgrounds stand in line to be seen on a first-come first-served basis. Women’s health services are not normally offered during these hours.

The Women’s Health Day clinic will provide medical services such as pelvic exams and pap smears, STD screenings, a self-breast exam workshop, pregnancy tests and pre-natal referrals as well as referrals for bone density screenings and mammograms.

School of Medicine clinic coordinators said it is important for women to participate because many diseases can be detected early with screenings such as mammograms and pap smears. Women should make screenings and routine care to help lower their risks of many health conditions.

Kelly Bennett, M.D., serves as the clinic’s medical director, and Fiona Prabhu, M.D., is the assistant medical director. Both are from the TTUHSC Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Also available will be personalized resource counseling and Children’s Health Insurance Program application assistance.

Transportation is available by request. For transportation, to make an appointment or for any questions, call (806) 337-2098.

Lubbock IMPACT provides the building in which the clinic operates. The clinic is fully funded by donations from the local community. Lubbock IMPACT collects a large majority of monetary and equipment donations.
