You Are Never Too Old to Get Vaccinated

The Free Clinic will partner with the Lubbock Health Department to offer free vaccines from 3 to 5:30 p.m. February 24 at Lubbock Impact 2707 34th St.

Vaccines will include pneumococcal, hepatitis A and B, influenza, TdaP (for tetanus, diphtheria and adult whooping cough), Gardasil or human papillomavirus, meningococcal (for meningitis) and Zostavax (for shingles).

The Free Clinic is an urgent care clinic for free basic health care for the uninsured, working poor and homeless population of Lubbock. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine physicians and medical students run the clinic every Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m. This additional The Free Clinic Immunization Day will be offered to give adults an opportunity to get vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends vaccinations from birth through adulthood to provide a lifetime of protection against many diseases and infections like influenza, pneumococcal disease, human papillomavirus and hepatitis A and B. Molly Rooney, The Free Clinic team member and second-year medical student, said many adults are not vaccinated as recommended, leaving them vulnerable to illness.

“Infants, the elderly and pregnant women are at greater risk for serious infections and complications,” Rooney said. “Getting yourself vaccinated protects, not only you, but also vulnerable loved ones."

Rooney said The Free Clinic Immunization Day is for patients 19 to 64 years old. Please bring immunization records, if possible. Early registration is not required. For more information, call (806) 799-4320.
