TTUHSC researcher receives patent for schistosomiasis vaccine - Lubbock AJ
Lubbock AJ - Dr. Afzal Siddiqui received patent for a vaccine he created through TTUHSC research to treat schistosomiasis.
The disease is more prevalent in countries outside the continental United States, potentially putting 800 million people at risk.
“This vaccine is a chance to improve the lives of 200 million people,” said Dr. Michael Conn, vice president of research for TTUHSC, in reference to the number of people affected by the disease. “This kind of opportunity doesn’t come along often.”
