TTUHSC President Announces Recipients of Distinguished Faculty Awards 


Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., acknowledged the efforts of 24 faculty members, naming them the 2015 TTUHSC Distinguished Professors. The faculty members will be recognized at the annual TTUHSC President’s Faculty Convocation and Awards Ceremony from 3 to 4 p.m. November 5 in the Academic Classroom Building Room 100 in Lubbock.

The faculty members were nominated by other TTUHSC faculty and selected for outstanding contributions to the research and educational efforts at TTUHSC, by a committee composed of representatives from each TTUHSC school. Faculty from all TTUHSC campuses and schools were selected, and Mitchell explained these key faculty members have had provided significant contribution to TTUHSC as whole, regardless which school or campus they work within.

“Faculty like those acknowledged demonstrate the vision for education at TTUHSC,” Mitchell said. “Through taking initiatives in interprofessionalism, community service or advancing TTUHSC in other ways, these faculty members have set themselves apart. These educators are critically important to the success of the entire university.”

  • Susan Bergeson, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmacology and neuroscience

  • Ahsan Fakhrul, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences

  • Rajkumar Lakshmanaswamy, Ph.D., associate professor and director of Center of Excellence in Cancer Research

  • Jon Weidanz, Ph.D., MPH, professor of immunotherapeutics

  • Jean-Michel Brismee, Sc.D., professor of rehabilitation sciences

  • Rajinder K. Koul, Ph.D., professor of speech, language and hearing sciences

  • Sherry Sancibrian, M.S., professor of speech, language and hearing sciences
