Texas Pain Foundation Formed To Educate About Pain

James E. Heavner, DVM, PhD, Professor Emeritus, TTUHSC School of Medicine

The Texas Pain Foundation (TPF) recently received approval by the United States Internal Revenue Service to operate in the state of Texas as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the primary purpose of educating the public and health care professionals about pain and its treatment. The first major endeavor of the Foundation will be to organize a scientific conference in San Antonio in fall of 2015 to provide information to physicians and other health care providers about current issues related to the safe and effective treatment of pain, especially chronic pain and cancer pain. A committee headed by Miles Day, M.D., from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine, will plan the conference. He will be assisted by Drs. Erik Hustak, Joyseree Subramanian, Dani Solanki, and Joel Berry.

James E. Heavner, DVM, PhD, Professor Emeritus, TTUHSC School of Medicine, is Chairman of the Foundation. Other board members include TPF Treasurer, Dr. Graves Owen from Round Rock, Texas and Secretary, Richard Hurley, M.D., from Waco, Texas.
