Leaders Join Together

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Student Government Association (SGA) hosted SGA leaders from Texas Tech University, Angelo State University and TTUHSC for the Texas Tech System Joint Student Congress.

Eric Edwards, TTUHSC SGA president, welcomed the student leaders.

“What an exciting time to have everyone here at TTUHSC,” Edwards said. “The joint congress is a great opportunity to bring all the leaders together under one roof and share experiences and concerns.”

Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert L. Duncan, TTUHSC President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., and Texas Tech University President Duane Nellis addressed the SGA leaders.

Chancellor Duncan expressed to the SGA leaders that this is an exciting time to be a part of the Texas Tech University System, and there is great leadership within the university presidents and SGA senators.

“I would not be standing here today as Chancellor if not for my experience in student government at Texas Tech University,” Duncan said. “Before coming to Texas Tech, I had never considered being involved as a government official as a student, or even later at the state level.”

Duncan said he was asked to run and was given $40 to run his campaign.

“I ran and won and got involved,” Duncan said. “It inspired me. Some of the items we rallied for were passed and still stand today. The important thing you must remember is that you are making a difference in what you do.”
