Spring into Reading with Reach Out and Read

WHAT: The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine at the Permian Basin, Department of Pediatrics will host the annual “Spring into Reading with Reach Out and Read,” for the children of the Permian Basin.

WHEN: 1 to 4 p.m., May 11 (Saturday)

WHERE: Carousel Stage at Music City Mall, 4101 E. 42nd St., Odessa

EVENT: Spring into Reading with Reach Out and Read welcomes children of all ages to enjoy popular children’s books read by local celebrities and other fun and exciting activities.  Children can enjoy face painting, planting their own tree and a special appearance by the Music City Mall Balloon Man. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend, and can enter to win books in a free drawing. There will also be volunteers to help families learn more about the fun of reading.

Reach Out and Read, a research-proven nonprofit organization, prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.  At each regular pediatric checkup from 6 months to 5 years of age, children receive a new book to take home.
