Texas Tech University System Leaders Visit Washington D.C.
Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance, Interim Texas Tech University (TTU) President Lawrence Schovanec, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., are spending the week meeting with key U.S. legislators in Washington D.C.
Hance is leading discussions on various initiatives for the Texas Tech University System.
“This is an exciting time for the Texas Tech University System, and our visit to the Capitol allows us the opportunity to showcase our latest accomplishments,” Hance said. “By meeting with our elected officials in Washington, D.C., we are able to communicate the importance of our initiatives and identify areas of collaboration to ensure a promising future for each of our institutions.”
TTUHSC initiatives focus on rural and border health, primary care, veteran affairs and general research.
“Health-related institutions in Texas are a precious resource in our state,” Mitchell said. “They are essential to progress in our understanding of health and disease. We are hoping to show legislators that there is no better example of what health-related contributions are all about than TTUHSC.”
TTU initiatives include wind energy, nanophonetics, food safety, agricultural research, the Ogallala Aquifer, the University Transportation Center and the Hill Country campus,
“We have faculty at Texas Tech conducting valuable research that offers solutions
to issues affecting our community, region and state,” Schovanec said. “It’s important
we convey to our legislators the significant impact of the work being done on our
campus.”
