For years, the Medical Center of the Americas has been little more than a big idea, a set of plans and then a green sign on Interstate 10, but the construction of the medical park’s first new buildings is set to begin.

The high-tech building would house several different tenants, she said. The MCA Foundation is negotiating leases right now, but the building could house City Health Department laboratories, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center labs and the BioMedical Institute of the Americas.
