Mrs. Laura Bush Speaks at the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health Day of the Woman Luncheon in San Angelo

Former first lady Mrs. Laura Bush delivered remarks in San Angelo today (April 11) to show her support for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s (TTUHSC) Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health (LWBIWH) and to raise awareness for the differences between men and women in health care delivery.

“The movement for gender-based medicine is an emerging trend, and the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health has been at the forefront of this mission for many years,” said Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance. “We are very grateful to have Mrs. Bush’s continued support and are honored to have her as the namesake of our institute.”

Mrs. Bush addressed these important differences at Day of the Woman, a luncheon supporting the LWBIWH and its research and educational programs, along with Brian J. May, Ph.D., president of Angelo State University (ASU) and Linda Ross, DNP, R.N., M.S., Regional Director of the LWBIWH at San Angelo

“The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health advances the cause of women’s health for women everywhere,” Mrs. Bush said. “I am proud and happy to be part of the Institute’s work.”

Mrs. Bush’s visit celebrates the three-year anniversary of the LWBIWH at ASU. San Angelo Community Medical Center has been their exclusive health sponsor since its inception in San Angelo.

Proceeds from Day of the Woman support the LWBIWH in women’s health research at ASU and community programs like Access to Breast Care for West Texas. The LWBIWH improves the lives of women and girls across the Concho Valley through research unique to women’s health.

Because gender differences matter, the LWBIWH improves the lives of women and girls through research supporting scientific discoveries unique to women’s health. The LWBIWH promotes the education of health care professionals. The institute’s outreach efforts to West Texas women and their families connect with communities for healthier lives.
