Get Moving Toward Better Health and Fitness
GET FiT strives to promote a healthy lifestyle in the community and improve health and fitness.
Are you ready to GET FiT? Registration for GET FiT Lubbock 2012 is now under way.
GET FiT, an eight-week competition designed to help you reach your fitness and weight loss goals, begins Oct. 22 and runs through Dec. 16. The competition, a program of the Garrison Institute on Aging, includes exercise and weight loss activities, encouragement and support from health and fitness professionals, free lectures and more.
To start getting fit, follow these steps:
- Build a team of four people committed to working on their personal health and fitness.
- Elect a team captain.
- Complete team and individual registration and get moving.
- Track your exercise, eating habits and weight, and report weekly to your team captain.
Awards and prizes will be distributed based on points. To earn points, participants are encouraged to exercise, lose weight and attend events. One point is given per minute of exercise, 50 points per percent of weight loss and 50 points per event attended, with additional bonus points awarded for select events. The top three teams, as well as the top three individuals by gender in each age group, will be rewarded.
Since its launch in 2007, GET FiT Lubbock has resulted in almost 100,000 hours of exercise and 12,000 pounds lost.
Registration is free and open until Oct. 21. Participants must be at least 18 years old. For more information, call (806) 743-7821 or visit www.healthylubbock.org.
