Spring into Reading
WHAT: The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine at the Permian Basin departments of family medicine and pediatrics will host Reach Out and Read, a free event share book and reading with families and children in the community.
WHEN: 1 to 4 pm Saturday (March 10)
WHERE: Grand Stage, Music City Mall, 4101 East 42nd St. in Odessa
EVENT: Reach Out and Read welcomes children of all ages to enjoy three popular children’s books: Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are,” David Wiess’ “Tuesday,” and Jane O’Connor’s “Fancy Nancy.” Children will also have the chance to make monster masks, get their faces painted and watch a magic show performed by local magician Harlin. Children may also enter free drawings to win books.
Reach Out and Read, a research-proven nonprofit organization, prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. At each regular checkup from age 6 months to 5 years, children receive a new book. Founded in Boston in 1989, Reach Out and Read operates in more than 271 hospitals, health centers and pediatric practices in Texas.
