This Land is Our Land
The new land will house SiM Central, a simulation center for the state's Panhandle region.
The Amarillo campus recently accepted a 10.8-acre land gift from Harrington Regional Medical Center. The land will allow for future expansion of the Amarillo campus to accommodate a growing number of students.
“This generous and wonderful land gift from the Harrington Regional Medical Center is one of the great moments in the history of TTUHSC at Amarillo,” said Regional Dean Richard Jordan, M.D. “This land will be the future site of SiMCentral at Amarillo, the Panhandle’s simulation center.”
Jordan added, “This is a great example where organizations and educational institutions join together and work for the greater good of the community and the region.”
SiMCentral, a collaborative of TTUHSC, West Texas A&M University and Amarillo College, uses hi-fidelity human patient simulators to provide multi-disciplinary training opportunities to medical, nursing and allied health students and residents, said President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D. Thousands of people from the Texas Panhandle and five other states rely on the Amarillo campus to meet their health care needs.
“It will allow the School of Medicine at Amarillo to continue to provide state-of-the-art education to our trainees and also for the schools of nursing and allied health sciences at our wonderful alliance institutions of Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University,” Mitchell said. “As we continue to grow, so does our mission of educating tomorrow’s health care professionals and our commitment to providing first-rate medical care to those who live in our community.”
