Third Class of Paul L. Foster SOM Students Receive White Coats in Ceremonial White Coat Ceremony
WHAT: The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Paul L. Foster School of Medicine will hold a White Coat Ceremony for first-year medical students. At this momentous ceremony, the third class of approximately 82 medical students, the class of 2015, will receive their first white coats — symbols of their chosen profession. The ceremony is designed to clarify for students, prior to their entrance into the medical community that a physician’s responsibility is to both take care of patients and to care for patients.
WHEN: 2:30 p.m., July 9 (Saturday)
WHERE: Chamizal National Memorial Theatre, 800 San Marcial, El Paso
EVENT: TTUHSC President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., will address the students. Other speakers will be Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Founding Dean J. Manuel de la Rosa, M.D. Students at Saturday’s event will be officially welcomed by faculty and staff, the El Paso community and fellow TTUHSC students.
Editor's Note: Please plan to arrive by 2:30 p.m. sharp, or earlier, for interviews and photos with students and School of Medicine speakers such as Mitchell and de la Rosa. These will not be possible after the program begins at 3 p.m. The ceremony will be less than two hours.
TV stations’ video camera photographers may film during the ceremony from the sound
enclave in the back of the theatre. Please do not take photos from within the main
theatre arena during the ceremony. No flash is permitted during the ceremony. A reception
will follow the ceremony. More interviews and photos will be possible at that time.
