Summer Brings Budding Pharmacists to Abilene

Campers practice taking pulse rates during the Raider Red Pharmacy Summer Camp in Abilene.
For the fourth year, the School of Pharmacy’s Abilene regional campus hosted a group of aspiring pharmacists at the Raider Red Pharmacy Summer Camp. The camp included 26 high school juniors and seniors from Texas, California and Missouri who spent a week exploring the profession through hands-on learning experiences and activities.
“Each student that attended the camp this year truly wanted to experience the pharmacy profession,” said School of Pharmacy Unit Coordinator and camp contact Melissa Edwards.
Campers toured local health care facilities and met with college recruiters to discuss pre-pharmacy course requirements. They were also introduced to drug compounding, patient assessment and pharmacy laboratory research by School of Pharmacy faculty and local pharmacists.Related Stories
