Dr. Craig Rhyne first met Dr. Robert Salem in 1975 when Salem operated on Rhyne’s father, who was suffering from colon cancer. The two could not have anticipated that a long-lasting mentorship, partnership and friendship would follow.

Salem worked in both private practice and on the academic side of medicine. From 1972 to 1975, he served as the first chairman of Texas Tech Health Sciences Center department of surgery, a “one-man surgery department,” he called it.
