Speaker Selected for Upcoming Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health at the Permian Basin Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon
New York Times best-selling author Kelly Corrigan has been selected as the keynote speaker of the fifth annual Pink the Basin Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health (LWBIWH) breast cancer awareness luncheon on Oct. 11 at the Horseshoe Arena in Midland.
Corrigan is a breast cancer survivor and author of The Middle Place, a memoir about the time when childhood and parenthood overlap. The book spent six months on The New York Times Best-Seller List.
“It is exciting to have the author of The Middle Place come to the Permian Basin. Each year, 100 breast cancer patients or survivors are invited to attend the lunch for free. My mother had breast cancer,” said Betsy Triplett Hurt, 2011 Pink the Basin chair. “I hated how the disease robbed her of the joy in her life. It is my hope that this dynamic speaker will provide a little joy in these special women's lives.”
Proceeds of the event will be used to provide mammograms to area women in need.
